LG Electronics Inc. on Sunday introduced a single DVD player that supports both next-generation, high-definition DVD formats, Blu-ray and HD DVD. At a news conference at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, LG said its Super Multi Blu Player would be available in early February for about $1,200 and computer drive would be available in the first quarter for about the same price.
This player could handle interactive feature of Blu-ray format including looking at menus while a movie is playing, but it does not support all interactive features included on a HD DVD disk. Blu-ray is backed by a group led by Sony and HD DVD backed by a group led by Toshiba Corp. Warner Bros. will introduce a high definition DVD disc that can hold films and TV shows in both Blu-ray and HD DVD called Total HD. |
